FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Farewell
It is with regret that I say goodbye to the following staff and would like to congratulate them for the great work
that they have done at Pacific Pines:
Mrs McNeilage has been Acting Deputy Principal this year and will be returning to Merrimac State School
next year as Mrs Hadwen will be returning to her position here at our school. I would like to thank Chris for all
that she has done here this year and value the time that she has given to our school. On behalf of the
school, I would like to wish her all the best for her future career.
Mrs Thulkanam is retiring from Education Qld this year. Selvy has been at our school for the past seven
years and we value her contributions.
Mrs Alexander has been successful in gaining a transfer to Sunnybank State School. She is looking forward
to much less driving next year. Thank you Vivienne for your wonderful work here at Pac Pines.
Miss Griggs is going to Park Lake State School. Kara has done a great job teaching Year 3 here for the past
two years.
Miss O’Keeffe is going to Clover Hill State School. Lisa has worked hard with her Prep classes and has seen
them make fantastic progress.
Pauline Stock who has stepped in during the past two years to assist with classes and who is valued here as
both a teacher and a parent.
Tim Gall who will be going to Coomera Springs as their PE teacher next year. Thank you Tim for your work
here this year.
Re-banding of Pacific Pines Primary
At the beginning of this year, I was informed that this school had been re-banded from a Band 10 school to a
Band 11 which meant that the school was to be advertised in Semester 2 this year. I have been through this
process twice previously when I was appointed to Pac Pines and when it went to a Band 10 in 2006. I
applied again for this position and was very pleased to be given the news last month that I won the position
on merit. There are only about five schools in Queensland that are primary Band 11’s and I believe that I am
the only female principal in these schools so I am very pleased that I have been given the opportunity to lead
Pacific Pines into its next exciting phase. Thank you to all of those people who supported me through this
process.
Awards Day
It’s wonderful to see all of those students who receive recognition for their work and behaviour. We have
many excellent children at Pac Pines and they deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. I would like to thank
Mrs Gooley for organising such a fantastic day. It went smoothly and I would like to congratulate our new
school captains who I know will do a superb job in 2010. They are:

2009
2009 has been another great year at Pacific Pines. We have achieved in many different areas throughout the
school. We are coming to the end of our 8th year and say goodbye to those students who have completed all
8 years of their schooling at this school. What a special group! We are sending 170 Year 7 students onto
their high schools next year with the majority of them attending Pacific Pines High School. May I congratulate
all of my students at our wonderful school and wish you and your families all the best for a safe and happy
Christmas and a wonderful New Year. I am looking forward to 2010 and all of the challenges and successes
that it will bring- our new hall, the junior playground, the draft of the National Curriculum, preparing for our
10th birthday in 2011. Thank you to my staff, students and school community for making Pac Pines the best!
Regards

PPPS MUSIC CONCERT 25 NOVEMBER 2009
The final PPPS Music Concert for 2009 was held in the Community Centre last Wednesday night, 25
November.
It was a most enjoyable evening, with a wide variety of high quality music, both sung and played by students
from our School.

The Junior, Senior, Boys and Advanced Choirs, Junior and Senior Strings, Junior and Senior Bands all
participated. The Junior Strings singing and playing about Pac Pines was a particular highlight.

We thank Miss Warhurst, Miss BB, Miss Larmor, Mr Stewart, for their dedication, talents and ability which
allowed us to produce the results enjoyed by a large gathering of parents, family, friends and fellow students.
Of course, the behaviour of all students was up to the usual very high standard maintained by PPPS.
PPPS Rocks!

CONGRATULATIONS BROC!
On Wednesday the 11 November we left to go to Canberra.  It took us 14 hours, we drove all night.  We
were going for the Australian titles this time for the short track race.  Once we arrive at Canberra it was very
hot and the flies were very bad.  On the Saturday I came first in the very first race, second in the second race
and unfortunately I had a bad start in the third race so I was last to the first corner.  There were 12 riders in
front of me and on the last lap I shot through to first place.  I won 1st overall.
We headed home and got lost.  We went over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and saw the Opera House
eventually making our way home.  We had a sleep on Monday and I was back at school on Tuesday.

FROM THE SPORTS DESK
Please join the Phys Ed department and the rest of the teaching staff at Pacific Pines in congratulating
Brayden from 7G who was recently selected in the Gold Coast Academy Level 1 Squad for AFL.  Brayden’s
selection in this elite squad has come about due to his standout performances at AFL’s Future Stars
Program. This is an outstanding achievement given the array of sporting talent that was invited to participate
in the Future Stars Program this year.
Brayden now has the opportunity to go on to participate in a series of training sessions and camps
throughout 2010 to further develop his AFL skills and knowledge of the game, as well as player education
and personal development sessions.
Well done, Brayden! This is a fantastic accomplishment and we wish you the very best in your future sporting
endeavours.

DO WE HAVE THE NEXT SOCCER ROO AT PACIFIC PINES?
Well it certainly looks that way. Dakota in Year 7 was recently part of the South Coast Soccer Team who won
the State Title.  Dakota was a star during the competition and scored 2 goals in the final!  Due to Dakota’s
obvious talent he was chosen for the Queensland Team which played in Adelaide.  The Queensland team
was victorious at the National Titles with Dakota setting up numerous goals as well as being the leading goal
scorer for Queensland.  This is an amazing feat in itself but is even more amazing considering Dakota
plays in the Mid Field not Striker!  We are very proud of your efforts here at Pacific Pines.
GIRLS RUGBY LEAGUE
On the 12 November 16 brave girls from Pacific Pines participated in the first ever Gold Coast Region
Primary Girls Tackle Rugby League Gala Day.  Pacific Pines was one of seven teams competing in the
competition.  The girls got through their 3 pool games before advancing to the semi-final where they met the
unbeaten Broadbeach team.  The girls defeated Broadbeach 3 tries to 1 and then played the undefeated
Worongary team in the final.
In a thrilling last game the scores were deadlocked at 3 tries each at fulltime. The game then went to golden
point extra time with Worongary scoring a try in the last few seconds of the game.
The girls from Pacific Pines can be very proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the day.
Their behaviour, sportsmanship and effort was outstanding.  Thanks to all the parents who came and
supported the girls, I am sure you would have enjoyed the day as much as I did.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Wednesday 11 November students from year 4-7 attended the Pacific Pines Swimming Carnival at
Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre.  The weather was perfect with a large number of students participating
in the 25m and 50m events.  For the first time in Pacific Pines history Hackett won with 1250 points, Norman
1092, Rafter 1022 and Freeman 979.  Congratulations to the Age Champions for 2009:
