![]() Spring Carnival
Thank you to the many families who supported our Spring Carnival on October 31st. It was a great day
thanks to the fantastic organisational skills of our P&C President Kristi Walsh and our Vice President Karina
Braidotti. Also I would like to extend my thanks to Kristi and Karinas families especially their husbands who
worked from 5.30am on the day until 7pm that night ensuring that the day was a great success for our
students and their families. This does not take into account all the many hours spent organising the event. It
makes me proud to see so many staff, parents and community rallying around to assist in preparing and
helping on the day. We look like making around $18,000 profit which is fantastic and will go towards ensuring
our new hall will have the best facilities for our school. The hall meetings have gotten under way. I have
chaired two so far and the graphics of the hall from the architects look amazing. It is scheduled to start in
March 2010 and completion will be around the end of October 2010. It will incorporate meeting rooms, a
computer lab, kitchen, toilets, storerooms, changing rooms, indoor sporting facilities, mobile stage and rain
water tanks.
Junior Playground
The new and improved junior playground will commence shortly with completion expected for the start of the
new year. The effects that have been planned are outstanding and will be a showcase for our school. I have
assisted in the design of a desert theme on the eastern side of the Prep buildings and a tropical theme at the
back of the Wattle building. There will be artificial grass, facilities to develop fruit and vegetable gardens,
interactive environmental facilities, climbing apparatus and many more innovative designs. Lucky students!
Thank You Miss O and Mr Gall
I am constantly told what a great staff I have here at Pac Pines and just to give an example, I would like to
acknowledge the time and effort that Miss O and Mr Gall gave to our mixed Touch Team who performed in
Brisbane last Saturday and Sunday. As well as giving up their afternoons to train these 12 students, they
also spent long hours looking after the team last weekend. Thanks to Mrs Gooley who went to support the
teachers and students. Feedback has told me that we should be very proud of our students as they were a
credit to our school and performed brilliantly in their game and sportsmanship. I thank them on behalf of our
school.
I would also like to acknowledge the excellent organisation that Miss O and Mrs Taylor has done with Pac
Pines Has Talent. What a fantastic experience for our students. The finals are on this week and the
confidence shown by our students is amazing. Thanks also to the Student Council for all of their hard work in
assisting the teachers in making sure that it all ran smoothly. You are a credit to our school.
Students Leaving the School
If your child is leaving the school at the end of this year please let the office know so we can arrange our
staffing for 2010.
Booklists
I have just finalised the booklists for 2010 and you can expect to receive these next week. Please be aware
that the school will not be handling them and that Kookaburra is the only company who we will be dealing
with. Orders can be made online or offline. We prefer online if you have those facilities. All orders are to be
home delivered and you will be able to give your address when you order. You can expect delivery just
before January 16 2010. You still have the option to get these items yourself. All orders are to be in by
Monday December 7th.
Enrolments for 2010
If you need to enrol your Prep child for next year please do so ASAP as time is running out and my diary is
getting very crowded.
Regards
Kathy Edwards

The dental van has started examinations on some grade 1 and some grade 7 classes. Our priority is to
complete the grade 7 students before they leave therefore if your grade 1 student is not examined this year
we will do them first up in term one 2010.We will be working our way through these grades this year however
will be staying at PPSS in 2010 to offer treatment to the rest of the school. This week we are issuing consent/
medical history forms to the Grade 5 and 2 classes. We ARE NOT examining these students this year but
need them returned ASAP to ensure all paperwork is done so examinations can begin in the first week of
next year. If your child is in grades 1, 2, 5 or 7 and you have not received a form please collect one from the
office or directly from the dental van.

A few weeks ago I was asked if I would like to attend a dinner on Thursday 29th October at the Radisson
Resort Gold Coast. The Radisson was announcing that they had become a major sponsor for Gold Coast
United. 12 kids from around the Gold Coast were invited to dinner with the members of the team and my
name was put forward from the President at Pacific Pines Soccer Club.
We were given the opportunity to have a kick around with the boys and then enjoy a meal back at the
Radisson. Jason Culina, Joel Porter, Scott Higgins and all of the team were there. I took my hat along to get
all the players signatures. It was a great night which I will remember for the rest of my life.
