FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Goodbye Mrs Gooley
The time has come when we have to say goodbye to Mrs Angela Gooley – the first Deputy Principal
appointed to Pacific Pines Primary School.  Angela has worked with me since November 2001 to assist in
getting the school ready for its first students for January 2002.  We have known one another both personally
and professionally for nearly eleven years at Broadbeach State School and here at Pacific Pines.  During this
time, we have developed many programs, processes and have received numerous rewards for the
development of this unique school.  Now Ang will have the opportunity to lead in the development of her very
own new school at Springfield Central near Ipswich which is my old home town.  She has made us all proud
of her efforts and has been rewarded with a Deputy Principal’s dream – her very own school.  What an
achievement!!  I am looking forward to keeping in touch with her to see what innovations she will be
developing for her new school community.  Best of luck Ang.
Acting Deputy Principal
Mrs Rebecca Collie will be replacing Angela for the next six months.  Bec is coming to us from her position
as the Acting Deputy Principal at Worongary State School.  Bec has been the Head of Curriculum and Acting
Deputy Principal at Elanora State School before that. I know that she is very excited about coming here and
working with my great admin team.  Bec will be line managing Years 6 and 7 students and staff during the
next six months.
Report Cards
Report cards were sent home on Thursday. Please be on the lookout for your child’s report.  If you need to
discuss anything on the report card, then make an appointment with your child’s teacher early next term.
Vandalism
Please be aware that the school received some vandalism last weekend.  Apparently, the security officer
chased some teenagers from the grounds.  I would like all of my community members to be especially
vigilant at weekends and over the holidays and to contact the school watch number if you notice any
unwarranted activity around the school.
Culminating Days
I have been very pleased to see large numbers of parents and friends attending the many Culminating Days
around the school last week and this week.  Our school is unique in the celebration of the learning that
occurs here and we are proud to share that learning with parents and the community.
Junior Sports Days
These days have been postponed until after the holidays and you will be informed of the new dates when
they have been decided.  It was unfortunate the weather was unkind to us.
End of Term
We have now come to the end of Term 2 and all of us are looking forward to a break to renew our energies
for the new term I have decided to hold our Spellathon next term as we will have more time for its
organisation. All the best for a safe holiday and school will resume for students on Tuesday July 13.

To the Students, Staff, Parents and Community of Pacific Pines Primary,
It is with mixed feelings of tremendous sadness and great excitement that I begin the final
week of what has been an inspiring journey here at Pacific Pines Primary as your Deputy
Principal.
The thought of leaving what can only be described as a sensational school is very difficult for
me, yet I should share that I am beyond excited at the opportunity to, as a founding Principal
open a new school at Springfield Lakes which will open in 2011. Ironically, an experience not
dissimilar to one which Mrs Edwards and I shared back in 2002, establishing this amazing
school.
I did say in the interview for my new position that when establishing Springfield Central my
intention was not to carbon copy Pacific Pines Primary but rather be influenced and infused by
the opportunities and experiences I have been afforded here.
I will tell you though, that my hopes are that there are three uniquely distinctive things that the
new S C will share with PPP.  Firstly that it will be a place where teachers can teach and
students can learn, secondly that it will be a school where at the centre of every decision is
what is best for students and thirdly that it will be a school where the students are always
striving towards self-management.  These three things in my mind are central to the success
of Pacific Pines. I am sure you would agree with me that when combined they give our school
a 'feel' that is truly encompassing.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your contribution to
the past nine years to that 'feel' and also to acknowledge the quality and professionalism of
the staff here at PPP.
Throughout my whole life my wonderful parents taught me that it is not what you have in your
life that counts, it is who.  For me this resinates in both my personal and professional life.  I
would like to take this opportunity to make special mention of the admin team; Mrs Edwards,
Mrs Cridland and Mrs Hadwen, all of whom I have learnt so much from and whom I know I will
greatly miss.  To the amazing teaching staff, may teaching always be your passion. To our
non-teaching staff, know that our students appreciate and greatly benefit from your efforts and
skills.
To the 2010 Student Leadership Team, you impress me beyond words. I am sad not to be
able to guide and watch your further growth as leaders but am comforted by the knowledge
that you are all on the right track and have amazing futures ahead of you.
To all the students past and present, I can only hope that I have impacted upon your lives a
small proportion of how you have influenced mine these past nine years.  May your futures be
bright and may you dare to dream.
If you see me this week with a beaming smile, it is not because I am leaving.  It is an attempt
to follow some very good advice from a dear friend who told me "not to cry because it is over,
smile because it happened'.
Thanks for having me, missing you already.

FROM THE SPORTS DESK
AFL
Our Pacific Pines Senior AFL side recently competed in The Future Stars Cup. Only the elite teams from
across the entire Gold Coast Region are invited to take part in the round robin tournament. Our boys battled
hard all day, only going down to Gaven State Primary School in a very closely fought Grand Final. While the
Pacific Pines boys were courageous and committed on the field, they also displayed plenty of class,
evidenced by their sportsmanship and sense of fair play.  It’s very pleasing when opposition coaches
comment favourably on the attitudes of your players and how they conduct themselves.
Overall it was a real team effort that saw us progress to the Grand Final.  We had many fantastic players on
the day, none more so than Ryan, whose performances were nothing short of outstanding. The two
Mathew’s, Dean, Ben, Jack, Josh, Michael, Connor, Corey and Logan were others who performed
exceptionally well.
From the coach to the players, thankyou for an awesome year. To the departing year 7’s, I wish you the best
of luck in your future endeavours.  For the year 5’s and 6’s, I hope to see you running around in Pacific Pines
colours next season.
ATHLETICS CARNIVALS
Unfortunately both the Prep & Yr 1 and the Yr 2 & Yr 3 Athletics Carnivals were postponed due to wet
weather this week. The Prep & Yr 1 Carnival has been rescheduled for the 21st of July while the Yr 2 and 3
Carnival will take place on the 22nd of July.

SENIOR GIRLS INTERSCHOOL NETBALL
Congratulations to all the Year 7 girls who participated in Interschool Netball.  All the Year 7 teams came 2nd
in the competition!  This is a fantastic result as for some girls this was the first time they had ever been on a
netball court.  Well done girls on a wonderful effort – your school is very proud of you!
