Who could imagine the Year 7s would be missed! We seem so much quieter without them.
On the morning of Friday 26 March we have our Student Leadership Badge Presentations. This is
an opportunity to recognise those students who have achieved positions of leadership this year.
They are an impressive group of students. Most Mondays I work with the Student Council. What
wonderful students they are. The Student Council comprises the School Captains and Vice-
captains, UNICEF Reps and two students elected from each Year 4 to 6 class.

This Year the Student Council will meet with leaders in our community to learn more about different
styles of leadership. They will also do activities to explore their own leadership ideas and
capacities, learn how to run meetings according to accepted procedures and put these skills into
practice in the range of decisions they make on behalf of students at the school. I enjoy meeting
with them and feel very confident that many will become our community leaders of the future.
The P&C AGM is not far off Monday evening, 29 March. You are very welcome to attend. I
believe most of the Executive are seeking to be re-elected. However, I would still like to meet with
someone who is interested in the Assistant Treasurers position with a view to learning about the
Treasurers role for the following year. Please give me a call if you would like to know more.

Coeliac Awareness Week
Coeliac Awareness Week runs from Saturday 13 March to Saturday 20.
![]() The Is your child out of sorts? campaign aims to raise awareness about the disease and its low
diagnosis rate in Australian children.
Coeliac disease affects at least one child in 100, but as many as four out of five are not diagnosed.
This year, the Coeliac Society has joined forces with the Coeliac Research Fund to spread the
word about the disease and help parents and carers identify the symptoms.
Talk to your GP if you suspect your child has the disease.
Symptoms to look for include unexplained bloating, diarrhoea or constipation, tiredness or lack of
stamina, anaemia, failure to thrive or difficulty in concentrating or if your child is just generally out
of sorts.
For more information about Coeliac disease or to request a brochure visit the Coeliac Society
website at www.coeliacsociety.com.au/aware.html or contact the Coeliac Awareness Hotline on
phone 1300 273 272.

Brisbane District Hockey Trials
Brisbane District Hockey trials are to be held this Thursday 18 March and Thursday 25 March for
boys and girls born 1998 and 1999. Only experienced players should attend. They will be held at
the South West United Hockey Fields, Graceville Cricket Club, Graceville. You are to bring your
own hockey gear, water bottle and completed paperwork. This paperwork can be obtained from the
Sport Noticeboard or Mr Clarke.

Once again, a number of crazy, brave individuals will be shaving or colouring their hair to raise
money to help find a cure for cancer as part of the annual Worlds Greatest Shave.
The shave/colour will take place on Thursday 1 April at 2.00pm in the school hall. We will be
having a free dress and coloured hair day, with a gold coin donation, on the day of the shave.
If the wonderful families of Sherwood wish to support this cause prior to 1 April, donations may be
taken to the Year 7 classroom and receipts will be issued for amounts of $2 and more. Please put
your childs name and year level on the front of any envelope containing tax deductible donations.
The Year 7s will be away at camp from the 15 March to 19 March so during this period please take
any donations to Mr Hass in the Year 6 classroom.
Given the large number of students wishing to shave their heads this year, we will
need the help of at least four qualified or practiced hairdressers on 1 April. If you are
able to help, please contact the school and leave your details.
Thank you in anticipation of your generous support for this worthwhile cause.

I met with the Student Council on Monday and they were all very enthusiastic
about the School discos. There will be 2 discos this year and the first one will be
on Friday 26 March from 4.00pm-5.30pm (Preps to Year 3) and 6.00pm-7.30pm
(Years 4-7).
The Student Council decided on a theme which will be Movie/Cartoon
Characters. Admission costs will be $5.00 per child and $10.00 per family. A sausage sizzle and
drinks will be available on the night. So kids start thinking of costumes and have those dance
moves ready.
